The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department will conduct an administrative checkpoint in downtown Richmond near the Monroe Park Campus this Saturday evening, Aug. 23. The checkpoint will operate in the 700 block of West Main Street from 9 p.m. to midnight.
In partnership with state and local law enforcement partners, VCU Police officers will focus on driver’s license and vehicle registration checks, remind drivers of proper nighttime safety practices and enforce violations, including driving under the influence.
This initiative is in support of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which targets the Labor Day holiday period – from Aug. 13 through Sept. 1 this year – and reminds drivers of the dangers of driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
WHO: VCU Police, Virginia State Police, Richmond Police Department
WHAT: Administrative/license checkpoint
WHEN: This Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 p.m. to midnight
