By Sian Wilkerson
Virginia Commonwealth University and Reynolds Community College will launch a dual-admission program, NEXT Step VCU, at a signing ceremony next Monday, Sept. 8.
The new program will provide ongoing support to eligible community college students as they navigate toward a bachelor’s degree at VCU, delivering resources to make the transfer process as seamless as possible. Benefits include cost savings, credit guarantees, personalized academic advising and access to community-building opportunities, as well as to VCU’s library services, campus facilities and cultural events.
The initial NEXT Step VCU cohort will enroll around 50 to 100 students, with the goal of increasing that number in subsequent years.
The hourlong event on Sept. 8 begins at 11 a.m. at the Navy Hill Community Room (Room 633) at the Reynolds downtown campus, located at 700 E. Jackson St. Parking is available in the adjacent garage at 820 N. 8th St.
Speakers include VCU President Michael Rao, Ph.D.; Reynolds President Paula Pando, Ed.D.; Virginia Community College System Chancellor David Doré, Ed.D.; and student Manuella Escobar, who transferred from Reynolds to VCU through the Mellon Pathways Program, which is the model for NEXT Step VCU.
Following the signing ceremony, there will be a reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres.
Media are invited to cover the event. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Sian Wilkerson at wilkersons2@vcu.edu or Joe Schilling at JSchilling@reynolds.edu.
